Modern pedagogical approaches recognize that learning occurs when children are treated as experts and who experience positive participatory experiences. In other words, it happens where children are listened to with respect, encouraged to make choices, take decisions and build relationships of trust with both other children and adults. Following the developments in the field of participatory approaches, this book attempts to formulate a pedagogical proposal for participatory learning in preschool and early school ages, and emphasizes the communicative aspect of young children's participation. The multiple factors that affect the participation of children in the school setting are highlighted and different proposals are considered for their effective participation in the educational process. The book focuses on the differing resources that children have for their communication and participation, highlighting the opportunities offered by the multiple languages for participatory learning. At the same time, research regarding the changes brought about by children's participatory approaches is discussed together with the obstacles that arise in this field.
